Eagle County School District'\;s Red Canyon High School students had a vision for a more desirable destination for Eagle County skate boarders in Gypsum. They approached their teacher\, Kendall Vanvalkenburg\, and she implemented a a project-based learning program appropriately called "\;Skateboarding"\; in response.
\n
\nThe students took the time\, did their research\, made notes about what aspects of skateparks they visited all over Colorado that they wanted to incorporate in the new Gypsum Skate Park design. After the students approached Gypsum Town Council about their ideas\, the Council was on board to pursue supporting the student'\;s vision for Gypsum'\;s new skate park.

Vanvalkenburg'\;s students raised over $125\,000 for the project - $80\,000 which was in the form of cash donations and grants. Additionally\, many sponsors contributed with in-kind donations.

The result of the student'\;s vision is a 10k square feet skate park\, a recreational jewel for Gypsum.
