In 2015 WASSAILFEST was added to Eagle Chamber's holiday activities.
What is Wassail (sounds like 'wassle')?
In Old English, the word meant 'be you healthy'; it came to be known as hot mulled cider, traditionally drunk during wassailing, a medieval ritual intended to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year.
What do you do during Eagle's Wassailfest?
Drink Wassail of course – to the ‘health’ of Eagle!
From December 8th-10th, local Eagle businesses served up their own secret version of Wassail.
Wassailers were invited to sample unique recipes at participating businesses during their normal hours of operation and vote for their favorite. More than 40 generous businesses donated gift cards that were given away to Wassailers who sampled at least 12 different wassails. The Grand Prize Wassailer winner from the drawing for the Apple SE watch was a 10 year old child. When asked what she thought about winning the watch, the child replied, "I'm going to give it to my brother because he likes technology". That is the spirit of the season of giving. The watch was donated by Wassailfest sponsors Circle-A Auto Repair and Hood Insurance Agency. Comerford Insurance Agency was also a sponsor of the overall event.
Roam was crowned 2021 WassailMeister as more participants voted in favor of Roam's secret recipe. Roam was awarded the coveted WassailFest trophy, which is held for one year. The furry wassail squirrel was also handed over, which Adrienne, the owner of Roam, has named "Andy", in honor of beloved Andy Jessen of Bonfire Brewing. Bonfire Brewing was named 2020’s WassailMeister.
Several participating businesses offered Wassailers special discounts or drawings for prizes. Check in with those businesses if you would like to check drawing results!
